FIVE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOLS MAKE LIST: Five schools in DeKalb County School System made Newsweek magazine’s “America’s Best High Schools” list for 2010. The list ranks the top 6 percent of public schools across the nation based on how well students are challenged with college-level content and assessment. Both DeKalb School of the Arts and Chamblee Charter High School were among the top 10 Georgia schools on the list.
DeKalb school system high schools and their national rankings included DeKalb School of the Arts, 248; Chamblee Charter High School, 295; Lakeside High School, 698; Dunwoody High School, 775; and Tucker High School, 1277.
The ranking system was developed by Jay Matthews of The Washington Post. The process divides all Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at the school by the number of graduating seniors. All of the 1,600 schools appearing on the list have at least a “1.000” score from this process.
